This week's quote must be from ACIM T-13.VI.3:5: "To be born again is to let the past go and look without condemnation upon the present."
If we do not let the past go, we put ourselves in prison. If we look at people with condemnation/judgement, we condemn ourselves. We're not free; we are tied to them. This is how we create hell -- our prison. We did it to ourselves -- they did not. From ACIM W P-I-192.8:3: "A jailer is not free, for he is bound together with his prisoner."
To forgive and let the past go, we can now be free and judge no more. This is when we experience heaven. We start again with a clean slate, like a new born baby. To be born again also means realizing that we are all One with the Creator. If we judge someone, we judge ourselves; if we free them, we free ourselves. From ACIM W P-I-192.10:6-10:
"Your function here on earth is only to forgive him, that you may accept him back as your Identity. He is as God created him. And you are what he is. Forgive him now his sins, and you will see that you are one with him."
To understand this phrase "accept him back as your Identity," we need to read what it says in the first paragraph of lesson 192: "It is your Father's holy Will that you complete Himself, and that your Self shall be His sacred Son, forever pure as He, of love created and in love preserved, extending love, creating in its name, forever one with God and with your Self...."
Self is our spiritual being, not our physical being, that is one with the Divine Creator. The entire lesson is worth reading.
How often do we judge people based on our connection with them in the past rather than seeing them as they are right now? Right now they are not what we remember them in the past. It is an illusion. We are so attached to the past! Our attachment to the past brings us misery. This is what we need to be aware of. And to go one step further, we need to look beyond who they are physically and see them as spiritual beings -- as we all are. Not knowing our true spiritual identity also brings us misery. To be born again is to be released from the past with love and forgiveness and to acknowledge/accept our identity as spiritual beings -- as God created us in Its image.
By the way, I came across Louise Hay's comment on Wayne Dyer's latest book called CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS, CHANGE YOUR LIFE and really wanted to share it with you:
"We do not need to fix problems; we need to fix our thinking. That's all."
In Oneness,
Hilda
Amen! Thank you for sharing! Peace and light!
I like the quote about fixing problems and thinking...
It reminds me of one cliche that God "forgives and forgets". We forgive but we don't forget, we are not letting go of our pasts. So we do need to change our thinking...
Thanks for bringing it up!
:o)
